Bijon Watson, the lead trumpet for the Grammy-nominated Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, will perform at 亚博体育app on Sunday, September 25.
Watson鈥檚 performance is part of the annual homecoming Pops Concert with Nebraska Wesleyan鈥檚 Symphonic Band and Jazz Ensemble. The free concert begins at 5:30 p.m. in O鈥橠onnell Auditorium, 50th Street and Huntington Ave.
Watson has performed and recorded with iconic artists including Natalie Cole, Michael Bubl茅, Justin Timberlake, Harry Connick, Jr., Lady Gaga, Stevie Wonder, and more. He has performed on 鈥淭he Tonight Show,鈥 鈥淎merican Idol鈥 and 鈥淒ancing With The Stars.鈥
Sunday鈥檚 concert includes songs, 鈥淗earts Reaching Upward,鈥 鈥淪tardust,鈥 鈥淎merican Jazz Suite,鈥 鈥淭he Love Connection,鈥 鈥淕roove,鈥 and 鈥淏egin the Beguine,鈥 among others.
Sunday鈥檚 concert will also include recognition of two 亚博体育app alumni. Kevin Boesinger will be honored with the 鈥淥utstanding Music Alum鈥 Award. Boesinger graduated from NWU with a bachelor of music education degree. He is the creative arts pastor at Christ Community Church in Beatrice where he has served since 1990. He will direct the Symphonic Band鈥檚 performance of 鈥淎vial,鈥 which he composed for the ensemble. Kaitlin Westbrook will be honored with the 鈥淥utstanding Young Music Alum鈥 Award. Westbook earned a degree in English literature and music from NWU and is now a professor in the Center for English Language Learning at the University of Missouri.
